About Frank

Hi, my name is Frank Ober, and this site is about wine discovery and musings. Places and wine that are off the beaten path. It is definitely not about high production wines. With Rhone varietals and my local producers taking center stage.

{History}
As a young person growing up in Carmel, California and New York City both, I finally made the move to Carmel where my father founded and ran two restaurants there, including his flagship Charlie O & Company. A restaurant that was popular enough for Herb Caen to take considerable notice. My work journey around the restaurant islands of Carmel, eventually took me to Casanova restaurant where I was in charge at a very young age for the fine wines of Walter Georis and his family. Walter was a true connoisseur of wine. So that’s how it all started, a long time ago in a place called Carmel, California. In an impressionable time in my life, I got to try fantastic tasting wine, and well, that got me hooked.

{Disclosure}
I do not take any money from any wineries. I have worked a few winery jobs but I do not consider myself “industry”. My favorite local wineries are portrayed in my blogs, but I have not done blind tasting competitions across a team of Somms to determine the very best of El Dorado County. There is more than I portray. I do no advertising, because that’s annoying. This is purely my own personal findings of wine works from retail/marketing back to production. I have taken the WSET 2 Certification at the Napa Valley Wine Academy and passed the course with distinction. (Which means I got a good grade on the test).

The wine and culinary world is amazingly deep and fun. I hope this blog gives you some ideas on what you might drink next!
