About Frank

Hi, my name is Frank Ober, and this site is about wine exploration of the western US. Places that are off the beaten path. It is definitely not about high production wines.

Instead here you’ll learn about the back road wines in concentric circles from El Dorado County outwards… Rhone varietals mostly which is my passion.

{History}
As a young person growing up in Carmel, California and New York City both, I finally made the move to Carmel where my father founded and ran Charlie O & Company. A restaurant that was hot enough for Herb Caen to take considerable notice. My work journey in the restaurant islands of Carmel eventually took me to Casanova restaurant where I was in charge at a very young age for the fine wines of Walter Georis and his family. So that’s how it all started, a long time ago in a place called Carmel, California.

{Disclosure}
I do not take any money from any wineries. Although my favorite wineries are portrayed in my blogs. I have no advertising by any wineries on my site. This is purely my own personal findings and understandings of wine working through the (mostly) Rhone varietal specialist wineries of Northern California. I have taken the WSET 2 Certification at the Napa Valley Wine Academy and passed the course with distinction. (Which means I got a good grade on the test).
Here is to the great varied wine world we live in!
